Turning 40

Forty is, they say, when life begins.
And is it time to look back at your sins?
As you have finally reached middle age,
It is now time to turn life's page.

Now you are forty are you also wiser?
And have you started to become a miser?
Is your hair turning grey?
Do you stop caring what others say?

And on your life have you applied the brakes?
And do you start to find your muscles ache?
Do you spend more of your time in thought?
And does life now start to seem quite short?

Now you are forty do all things change?
And what was there before now seem strange?
And are you now unafraid of being naughty,
Now finally you have turned forty?

These questions I could have answered page on page
There was a time I knew the answers, I am sure
But since then I have now reached forty-eight
And I can't remember the answers any more.
