Roy

entry picture

When I think about the passage of time as it eats away at my bones,
I always remember Roy’s, speech, in his dying moments at the end of, “Bladerunner,”
“I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.”
In that moment he expressed what every human wants to do in the end,
Share their experience so that they feel their life hasn’t been wasted,
Leave our lasting mark, our legacy upon the world,
And Roy did the last kind, meaningful thing that he could do in his predetermined lifespan,
Save the life of the man sent to kill him,
But I’ve always wondered whether Roy saved him because he was the last living thing he could save,
Or because he was the last person he could share those experiences with?
In the end we all want to tell our story,
And in the end we all want it to have a good ending.
