Donations are essential to keep Write Out Loud going

10 into 5

(I took the Jackie Hagan challenge - check it out in Features - but only if you are into self flagellation)

You taught me how to…

Cope – inner shells don’t crack

Share – bounty and the lack

Understand – ‘I’ is not all

Sing – every clamoured curtain call

Yawn – the written word evade

Laugh – through errors gravely made

Cry – at life unspent, expired

Hope – the love you inspired

Loathe – bitter, grit-eyed hate

Regret – we met, too late…

Yawn was my English A level teacher. She used to dictate her university notes to us for the whole duration of the lesson. It was mind numbingly boring.
Laugh - my French teacher, who was a laugh a minute - made french literature come alive - he was also fit in a craggy, raggy sort of way. I ended up studying French - which was a grave mistake cos I always hated the language and grammar side. I will always regret not studying English Literature.
On the whole, I think the people who influence us most in life are teachers and parents. Thereafter come good or bad experiences but essentially we are formed by our early role models.

For anyone who's interested:

Cope - my mum - 6 kids and a paralysed husband - you have to take your hat off to her.
Share - siblings
Understand - siblings
Sing - Shirley Bassey - my childhood idol - remember seeing her in Bolton.
Cry - 1 adult, 1 child who died young
Hope - those same two
Loathe - My one bad relationship
Regret - A fictitious character - but it could be every person you find attractive that isn't available. x

Well, it inspired me to try out an exercise. Although self flagellation did indeed spring to mind with my gawky phrases. Yours is beautiful by the way.
