Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat

“Out of the ground we were taken for the dust that we are, and to the dust we shall return,”
But your name may linger on past the coffin and the urn,
In the cold, hard light of day, history may remember,
The deeds you did upon this Earth long after you are ash and ember,
So aim high, be bold, be true, hold hard to rhyme and reason,
Plant your words as fertile seeds that stand test of time and season,
There is strength in a soul that knows its true potential,
Good and evil hang upon your knowledge of the differential,
Do not look for fame nor fortune, these things will blind your sight,
But strive to know the difference between both wrong and right,
And share the lessons you have learned with those that stand beside you,
But be mindful of the shadow that ever dwells inside you,
For knowing it and naming it as yours is not a mortal sin,
But do not let it rule you lest its darkness clothe your mortal skin,
Know that your word is sacrosanct and when given, must be kept,
Any less would show you as dishonest or inept,
Be bold, this world is made for those who stand tall with the brave,
Accept no man as master and take no man as slave,
Be faithful as the fireside dog and stealthy as the cat,
For fortune favours the brave, “Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat.”
