Donations are essential to keep Write Out Loud going

Advice from a homeless victim

A disaster was there to wipe out my home,

Homeless I became ,the streets I did roam.

My house due to an electrical fault did burn,

Uninisured ,a new life I had to learn.

I had to learn quick how I was going to survive,

Discarded newspapers helped keep me alive.

Layers on the ground provided bedding for a sleep,

Paper stuffed down my jacket where the cold could not creep.

The nights are long scary, uncomfortable and a lot on your mind,

Depending during the day that someone has been kind.

A sleeping bag is an essential for keeping you warm at night,

Sleep somwhere sensible,if possible out of sight.

When you are at the bottom it is easy to get depressed,

Curb your anger avoid getting stressed.

Passers by are more likely to help you if you are friendly and kind,

A cute dog beside you will incite donations you'll find.

Keep yourself clean ,if you possibly can,

Public toilets with running water ,you'll be a fan.

To stay close to these facilities is definitely a must,

While begging on the pavement earning a crust.

Keep everything you have wrapped up in a sack,

To leave your spot sometimes there is no time to pack.

Avoid conflict over a begging place,

To be moved on by the police you will sometimes face.

Due to the coronavirus crisis there are more of us out there,

Distressed,shell shocked,suffering financial despair.

No unsold sandwiches to devour at the end of the day,

A better future for us homeless I do pray.
