Frogs

After an age of stentorian coupling

Dots became tadpoles pullulating

Zooming around in marauding bands

A spoon of porridge for their catering

Tadpoles fed porridge and algae

Will grow into froglets in no time

I watched them hop onto dry land

I hoped they would reach their prime

But thrushes and robins were waiting

The novice amphibians proved easy meat

Beady-eyed wrens were left bloated

I fear few froglets found their feet

Tadpoles fed porridge and algae

Will grow into frogs in no time

I watched the them hop onto dry land

I hoped they would reach their prime

I'm a grown man but I shed tears at the slaughter

The pond seems empty without porridge in the water

Tadpoles fed porridge and algae

Will grow into froglets in no time

I watched them hop onto dry land

I hoped they would reach their prime

Liked this one! Took me back to childhood when we kept tadpoles in the spare room bathroom which no-one used. We left them alone near metamorphosis time and baby frogs got out everywhere.
