Stormy weather

There’s only so much reading you can do,

so much listening to storms rumble in

from far horizons.

We thought this earth was solid under us

but talk to a Seismologist or Virologist,

then you’ll quake.

We carry a yearning for solidity

with us always: in hospital, at the grave-side,

everywhere our dream allows us to live.

Now in late March 2020 we are hoping, just hoping,

that we’re travelling towards the harbour

and not heading straight in

to the eye of the storm.
