words fail me

entry picture

Word, fail to fall into line,

Like bricks in a tumble-down wall.

Like splinters of dried cement

Connotations scatter like cats.

Words spread like the plague

Words mount into insignificance

Words ripple into poetry

Words tumble off our tongues

Mouthing murmurs of meaning

Words build to a plateau of whine.

Lean into each other like dominoes

Words become a snaking line of dots,

On a black digital background,

That tumble into each other

With the slightest push of a mouse

With the tattered remains of human agency.

Time leaves a pile of jumbled words,

Like pieces of the biggest jigsaw.

Whispering: "What to do? What to do next?"

Where would we be without words?! You twirl them perfectly.

Yes words do have a habit of doing that. I particularly like the last line. It wraps up the piece nicely
