Biography

Hello! I'm from Kent but now living in Guildford in Surrey. A menopausal empty nester, as @Rhymes_n_Roses on Instagram I enjoy sharing poetry which combines nostalgia and attempts to make sense of modern life. Although many of my subjects are serious, I (sometimes) try to inject humour and positivity. I have published two pamphlets “Introducing Rhymes_n_Roses", and “Viral Odes” written during the first wave of the pandemic both available to order online via bookstores or my website. I also have poems in a number of international anthologies. In 2021 I completed an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Surrey. I have assisted with their Surrey New Writers Festival for the last two years and have recently helped introduce the mid-monthly Poetry and Pizza open mic night at the Solar Sisters cafe in Guildford. I also enjoy attending WoL Woking nights at The Lightbox and Poetry Performance gatherings. Thank-you

Cages of Glass

In cages of glass we hide in plain sight from a sickness unfettered by borders. Sadly we don’t have the power to fight, so we all must obey ‘stay home’ orders. As the framework of daily life shatters, work life is home life, we must not commute, we have time to reflect on what matters, saving the good stuff before we reboot. Outside the virus roams free striking all, wealth and status provide no protection. Key workers heeding society’s call plead that we stop spreading infection. In cages of glass we ogle at screens trying to grasp what the hell this all means.

Welcome to Write Out Loud, Sharron. Loved hearing your poem 'Hair Today' at Woking Stanza last week, and now I see it's in the next Dempsey&Windle anthology. Well done! Hope you'll try out some of your poems here from time to time. Greg
