Julian co-founded Write Out Loud with Dave Morgan in 2003 and, with his son Michael, created this website the following year. He has been a successful performance poet, coming second in several slams and joint first in the International Women’s Festival Slam, bizarrely. He has appeared at gigs across the UK and in France and the USA, and is an experienced compere of poetry events, such as the North West heat of the BBC Radio 4 slam. He wrote the script for the short film, To The Sea Again, a finalist at London's Angel film festival and Moondance in Hollywood. The film was produced and directed by Mark Jordon of Joepop: http://www.joepopproductions.com/ Julian has a background as a teacher and lecturer at all levels: infant to HE; a lifetime of experience as a workshop facilitator, trainer of facilitators and teachers, organisational consultant and management coach. He has produced teaching and training packs for a range of organisations including radio and TV, winning the Cooperative media award for his part in BBC's Roadshow guide to rights and the law, for young people. He was Minorities Editor of Basic Education Journal and wrote Workfacts for Young Workers which caused a Tory MP to complain that the government was funding publications encouraging young people to complain about their working conditions; and the use of a swear word in the book (bloody). He has worked in ladies’ clothing, been a lorry driver, encyclopaedia salesman, teacher and lecturer in England and France. As well as running Write Out Loud Julian has led creative writing and scriptwriting workshops for festivals, libraries and others, and interviewed Jimmy McGovern and David Nobbs live on stage. He has run poetry events in Bordeaux and surrounding areas and translated French poetry into English. He runs small publishing company, Blooming Media.
