In the Round After “Mountain Stone Circle”, Lake Pukaki, New Zealand Like tear drops, stones placed upon a flat rock or pearls of the ocean arranged into outer points of a circle, south to ice, north to Siberia, west to blazing Tasmania, and east, east, across the sea, the sea, the sea until at last...Chile, Argentina... smooth heart-shapes pulse toward a belief beyond unknown. There was an age when somebody stood here barefoot and naked the caved eye working its way along the horizon looking to the fear of the sun warming forever but these days cold stone is the circle’s centre. Already the sea advances, begins its claim upon what we thought was solid.
