Stockport Art Gallery, May 2010

Didn't we have a lovely time, the day we went to Stockport
A beautiful day at the Gallery
And all for under a pound you know
And after the job, we retired to the pub
Where no doubt there was someone (who) drank cider
After a few of our favourite poems
As the room span round....

...or something like that anyway.

In a room full of art, we created our own little masterpieces in an Art Gallery that quite literally shook with joy at some of the pleasures we gave it. Where else in the world could you hear, in one room, stories of giant skeletons, not too depressive gardens, whit walks, 1000 men depression in a ball, social economic commentary in rhyme and in not, Fairground attraction, a cat's predilection for life, some porn(!!!), a chair's adventures, swallows, crows and promises of a crocodile wrapped up in the murky world of serial killers. postcard ekphrasis, a depressing yet uplifting Yuletide Graveyard visit and a weather report - not unless you watched Granada reports on a regular basis!

But all-in-all, one of the finest SWOLs we have had so far, and there's time for all to join in next month.(That's MONTH, Andy!!!)

MONDAY 14th JUNE 7-9pm Stockport Art Gallery
with an added bonus of a topic for you all to write about, courtesy of the lovely Dorinda (who has already supplied some poetry for you all)

TOPIC: A childhood memory.
Good, bad, indifferent, funny, sad, scary....whatever. Anything will do. And if you just want to read something else out, then that's OK too, because we're nice people - aren't we?

Until then, I bade you farewell, till 14 June

I had a good laugh here I must admit as I did the first time I went a few months before.. I couldn't believe how many times Baggy got when the next one was on wrong... I actually thought for the first half of the night it was a weekly event honest to god! (He really should write a poem on that or use it as part of his stand up set - it made me laugh that much).

It's quite a different event in some ways I think to Middleton and Bolton and Sale (Still never made it to Hepden Bridge and Wigan but I will someday) but it's a good laugh..
