Gerard Woodward is a novelist, poet and short story writer.

He has been shortlisted for the Man-Booker Prize, The Whitbread First Novel Award and the T.S.Eliot Prize (twice).

After abandoning a degree in fine art he studied social anthropology at the LSE, and later at Manchester University.

At the LSE he won the Maurice Friedman Prize for the best final year dissertation. He has published four collections

of poetry, four novels and a collection of short stories. His first poetry collection won the Somerset Maugham Award.

This is a travel award which he used to spend time in Malaysia and Vietnam.

Two of his poetry books have been Poetry Book Society Choices and one a Special Commendation.

He has won Arts Council Writers Awards as both poet and novelist.

He is a regular reviewer for the TLS, The Guardian and the Daily Telegraph and became a Fellow of the Royal Society

of Literature in 2005.

He is the coordinator for third year novel-writing modules on the undergraduate course, and teaches a fiction workshop on the Bath Spa University MA course.
