Everyday events and concerns are elevated by depth of feeling, a clear eye and unobtrusive formal skill in the poetries of these two English writers, though where they live – one resident in rural USA, one firmly established at home – presents each with radically different subject matter.
James Lasdun has written three books of poems: A Jump Start, The Revenant and Landscape with Chainsaw, which was shortlisted for the TS Eliot Prize, the Forward Poetry Prize and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize.
Michael Laskey has published four collections of poetry and three pamphlets. He founded the international Aldeburgh Poetry Festival in 1989 and directed it through its first decade.
