Speakeasy is back! The funkiest sexiest poetry night club xperience returns with a new show BLACK JESUS. Directed by Yvonne Mccalla, Colin Thorpe & Chanje Kunda, Black Jesus is an Afrofuturistic scifi story about a mysterious and elusive figure ‘Black Jesus’, who is hunted by the secret police in Onechester, a parallel universe Manchester.
The performance will feature the ultimate renaissance man, SEGUN LEE-FRENCH, the Jam MCs originator, CHRIS JAM, the barbed and controversial punk poet Rev Porl, the co-founder of Sista Talk, Yvonne McCalla and the inimitable Mzmilly. Music by the Speakeasy house band: COLIN THORPE, CLIVE HUNTE & JAYDEV MISTRY.
DJ CHRIS JAM will be spinning Souljazz, Hiphop and Afrobeat classics alongside the latest Nu-soul and R&B. Our genial surreal host is, as always, the urbane not urban stand up comedian and poet JULIAN DANIEL.
Special guest: from Trinidad via London, ROGER ROBINSON, cool & deadly with words and music each & every time.
