Scribblers ahoy!
"In the midst of darkness I light a candle."
But that's not enough to banish the Brexit blues. Think Rio Carnival! This extravaganza will be in full swing on Sunday, 3rd March, when we next gather.
Time for a haiku by John Tiong Chunghoo:
"Let your hair down she says
It's time to put some sense
To Rio de Janeiro."
When carnival comes to town I say banish sense - enjoy! Sense is in the celebration.
I've booked the drawing room on the first floor of the Eagle and Child, High Petergate, York, for our next workshop, on Sunday,3rd March, 2.30-5.30 pm, but we could be moved onto the top floor.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you've been creating and polishing up over the festive season, that ended for me on 2nd February, and during this month.
As usual, please bring copies of your work, 3 or 4 would be fine, your work not to exceed 2,000 words or four sides of A4, and £2 if you're waged, otherwise £1.
If you're stuck or fumbling for a theme, just start playing with the word Carnival and see where it leads you.
A writing exercise, in some way connected with this theme, may be introduced during the workshop to enliven proceedings, but remember and be assured,scribblers, your work always takes pride of place over such exercises or diversions.

Carnival I - Funhouse by Lori Boulard

Bright lights among mirrors
reflections in caricature
curiosity surrounds
innocence.
She turns a corner and sees herself
wide
wavy
tall
small.
Each distortion extreme
yet strangely familiar.
Wandering into the open,
embraced by reality
she is haunted by the notion
of something left
behind.
