Fringe First/Stage Award winner Luke Wright delivers a completely engaging hurricane of a performance in his new politically-charged verse-show which tells the story of a 1980’s ranting poet called Frankie Vah. Carlisle audiences can see this gritty tour-de-force at the Old Fire Station.

Told in the first person with deft verse, Wright plays the character of Simon Mortimer, a vicar’s son from Essex who is looking for something of his own to believe in. But his world of radical politics, ranting poetry, love and penury is put to the test when he goes on tour with indie band, The Midnight Shift.

Following the multi-award-winning What I Learned from Johnny Bevan, Luke Wright’s second verse-play deals with love, loss and belief against a backdrop of grubby indie venues and 80's politics. Frankie Vah is 'one of the only verse dramas that could claim to get a crowd cheering and stamping their feet throughout' (Broadway Baby).

Frankie Vah is written and performed by Luke Wright, winner of the Fringe First and Stage Award for Acting Excellence; directed by Fringe First winner Joe Murphy and Alex Thorpe and scored by Ian Catskilkin of the band Art Brut.

The show has won a number of awards. It was performed at the Houses of Parliament, sold out a full three-week run at London’s Soho Theatre and is currently being turned into a film.

Luke Wright tours the world each year with his unique brand of poetry and can often be seen opening for John Cooper Clarke. His verse documentaries on Channel 4 have been enjoyed by millions and his poems can often be heard on BBC Radios 3 & 4, as well as further afield. He curates the spoken word line-ups at The Edinburgh International Book Festival, Port Eliot Festival and Festival Number.

'This is a mature, lyrical and politically relevant piece of poetic writing... beautifully performed... I watched and listened in awe and pleasure, just drinking, drinking, drinking in the beauty of this show' ***** - Exeunt.
