The Harriet Martineau Lecture is held in Norwich annually, celebrating the legacy of this remarkable, world-changing woman by inviting globally-renowned radical writers to respond to her life and work.

This year we welcome the world’s number one reggae poet, activist, and internationally bestselling artist Linton Kwesi Johnson, who will consider a relatively underexplored dimension to Martineau’s writings, her progressive campaigning on behalf of black emancipation. Taking this as his starting point, LKJ will analyse the legacy of slavery through a close reading of reggae lyrics. He will also consider parallels between Martineau's writings and CLR James’ classic of Marxist historiography The Black Jacobins.

Price: £12.00. (£12 (£18 for joint ticket with Martin Figura))

Time: 6:30pm
