During 2016, an interactive installation version of Lucy Burnett’s hybrid novel, Through the Weather Glass (Knives Forks & Spoons 2015), is going on UK tour with the financial support of Arts Council England & Leeds Beckett University. Come join lead character Icarus on a Lewis Carrollian journey through the weather glass of climate change into the word beyond at one of three upcoming launch events:

19th April, The Kings Arms, Salford, 6.30 for 7pm – Launch & performance
20th April, Broadcasting Place, Leeds Beckett University, 5pm – Viewing & talk
21st April, Kava Café, Todmorden, 7pm – Viewing & participatory performance

What if we can’t solve climate change? What if, instead of staring at our reflections in the weather glass, we travelled through everything we know about climate change and participated in the world beyond? Lucy Burnett's hybrid novel Through the Weather Glass tells a fantastic, playful account of the author's struggles to understand environmental change through the persona of Icarus during a 2500 mile cycle from Salford to the Greek island where Icarus fell. This interactive installation version of the novel, combining a bike-generator, animated film, poetry narration, music and a large set of willow wings, invites participants to pedal their own way through the weather glass and to craft some poetry wings to help Icarus fly. Come join She-Icarus and her talking bicycle on a genre-twisting and gender-bending road trip up mountains, across plains and along the coast of our wonderfully changing world.

During the Salford launch Lucy will deliver an hour long live poetry performance with a film / music backdrop before inviting the audience onto the stage to ‘have a go’. At the other two launch events, Lucy will introduce the ideas behind the installation and details of the upcoming tour before inviting guests to trial the installation and to contribute their own poetry ‘feathers’ to the willow wings. The aim at the Todmorden launch is to get participants to pedal right the way through! It is a poetry reading, but not as you might know it!

Following the launch events the installation will be touring book festivals around the UK. Please see www.throughtheweatherglass.com for more information and future tour dates or email Lucy to ask to be added to the mailing list (lucyburnett75@gmail.com).
