Two contemporary American poets to get your teeth into, in this close text reading and writing workshop: the straight-talking Tony Hoagland and the eloquently complex Robert Hass. You’ll consider the reach and boundaries of notebook poems by ‘90s US Poet Laureate Hass; and of Tony Hoagland’s shopping mall poems. Then, following directives from the pair’s poems, you’ll
explore your own poems with attention to variety, inclusiveness and flexibility of form as well as theme and craft.
