Burn After Reading featuring Kayo Chingonyi and Michelle Madsen

Burn After Reading is a new poetry community established by Jacob Sam-La Rose. We write, we read, we perform, we publish - as widely as possible. We celebrate a diverse range of poetics from 'spoken word' to 'page' and points in between. We celebrate the importance of understanding craft and of community.

A showcase of the wide range of talent B.A.R has to offer. Members of the Burn After Reading collective will be performing alongside feature poets showing London exactly what the next generation of writers has to offer.

Kayo Chingonyi is a writer, performer, events coordinator, creative writing tutor and author of 'Some Bright Elegance'. In 2012 he represented Zambia at Poetry Parnassus, a festival of world poets staged by The Southbank Centre as part of the London 2012 Festival. He was recently shortlisted for the inaugural Brunel University African Poetry Prize.

Michelle Madsen is a poet, writer, journalist and food artist. The founder and host of Hammer and Tongue London, part of the UK’s largest slam poetry network, Michelle has featured on stages as far afield as San Francisco, Berlin, Buenos Aires and Aarhus and she made her small screen debut on the BBC’s Why Poetry Matters series in May 2009. Hurtling from wild romance to dark satire through dizzying lyrical twists, Michelle’s work takes on love, lust, physics, politics, identity and gastronomic oddities, exploring the cityscapes of East London, her native Bishop’s Stortford and beyond.
