Lucky you! Such a wonderful experience and a great poem. That second line is fab!
Although I seriously contest the implied 'marriage' of 'pubs and poetry'. I don't drink much - never had the cash or the inclination, but mostly the money. And I don't feel poetically handicapped. If I got boozed up, I'd probably be sick, not inspired. But who knows what depths/heights/surrounds I've missed. ?

I am truly honoured to have my writing appear as WOL's 'Poem of the Week'.
Thank you all so much - your comments and compliments are very much appreciated.
Julian; Poets Corner @ Pages Cafe were the first events of their kind in Western Australia, staged in a public place, not affiliated with writing groups. They proved very popular with upwards of 40 people attending each event and many reading at the 'open mic' after my invited guests. Established poets were sometimes invited to host events on my behalf and often did.
Poets were very upset when I had to call it quits in 2008 as at the time, there was no-where else offering the same opportunity.
As I mentioned, I needed to focus particularly on screenwriting at the time, so closed down my poetic persona and retired to my 'bat' cave.
I had shown others how I ran my events - my deliberate inclusion, support, encouragement and equal opportunity readings for anyone who wanted to share their words.
The group you have listed (4 times?) was set up by someone who wanted to offer the same sort of event
and still meets regularly according to their Facebook page "Where slam meets sonnets.": https://www.facebook.com/perthpoetryclubnorthbridge/
Although I must confess, I have never attended a reading there - I am not a big fan of 'slam'.
Naturally I still have all my contacts and keep up to date with poetic happenings and all the local writing groups on-line.
I can certainly give you a list of writing groups who all include poetry in their mantras if you would like to include them although they would not be specific gigs.
So for today, imagine I am grinning from ear to ear - because I am...

A well-deserved, very evocative poem, and a fantastic set of answers to the questionnaire that bear out what we believe Write Out Loud is about. You are both a damn fine poet - as we already knew but this reinforces - and an admirable poetry activist.
Out of interest, are the poetry groups you have set up the same as this one that we have had listed in Perth for years:
https://www.writeoutloud.net/public/gigsearch.php?location=perth ?
If not, could you let more people know about your by listing them for us on the gig guide please?
Very well done to you, and thank you for such valuable insight into your poetry career.

Congratulations on POTW Frances. In the good old tradition of Desert Island Discs I think your man is out of the question and your laptop would have to be solar-powered.
Good work
Graham

Well done Frances and about time your name was up in lights on the WoL front page. I particularly like the insertion of 'just so' as it adds an authentic Irish voice to the story that sings out from the page. All the best, Colin.

G'day Cynthia,
Yes, I was lucky... thanks for the compliments.
I don't drink either, but happy to share the atmosphere and listen to the poetic sentiments expressed with abandon.
Never really been a pub-goer either except between workshops in Ireland as mentioned and when I was a student nurse - again, to drink in the atmosphere.
