Many's the time I curse the careless towels and cups and plates - but I really wouldn't be without those footprints - would that every person had such a home - and when you think about it, this could apply to more than children.

Cate, it seems to me that this isn't, in any way, a literal piece about messy people. I find your poem very powerful, angry and deliberately strong - more like a last-ditch stand against a very difficult person - swirling one of those spiked clubs around your head, with intent to let fly if necessary.
I hope it gets sorted. 'Do not leave a footprint on my life' is a brilliant line, and a ghastly idea.
