I Will Dance Here For Their Souls Bullets rain down Houses tremble as bombs explode As those who believe Power is worth more Than the life of a child Wage war on their neighbours I will dance here for their souls Uncles gone, nieces, nephews Parents, villages taken whole As those who believe Principle is worth more Than the love of family Devastate lives of people they know I will dance here for their souls Children gather, orphans, survivors Finding solace in the dance As those whom they lost Are always with them Congregations of ghosts Memories, no hand to hold We dance together for their souls Though broken walls surround me My heart is dagger-torn with grief A simple wish I hold For you to join me Innocent and free And when in time tragedy will take me You will dance here for my soul Susan Wainwright 12 August 2016 Ahmad in Syria dances and teaches ballet, in the midst of war.
