I CRY A RIVER Until when do you want to remain a piece of the third world puzzle? My motherland you're so reach yet so poor Once upon a time, the whole continent used to admire and adore you The bread basket of Africa, they used to refer you I cry a river when I think of a perfection you were They used to rank you amongst the greatest nations A marvel you were Your womb gave birth to intellectual sons and daughters: Doctors, Teachers, Accountants, Physicians, Technicians... I cry a river watching all your efforts sleeping away Oh Yea it's sleeping away Each time I think of you, I cry a river The land of Canaan, you were referred during your brighter days In a blink of an eye' it is so hard yet so true You have turned into a basket case of all nations I cry a river when I think of you Suddenly, you turned into a laughing stalk All your efforts are gone in vanity A helpless cabinet overwhelmed with selfishness, clueless and senseless leadership I cry a river, each moment I think of you A sudden your own people have turned away their face from you We can't blame them as they are helpless as you're On the news they we are labelled as immigrants, cheap labour and poorest beings on earth I cry a river when I think of you "Third world country" has suddenly turned into your second name Some even refers you as the darkest nation Each time I think of you I cry a river Only if I had power' I could repossess you, rebuilt you and restore your legacy Zimbabwe my motherland I cry a river when I think of you
