Two golden wedding approaching Rossendale'rs,both very very much community spirited.Patricia,a devout spiritualist/healer is a volunteer worker with special needs teenagers and is also a volunteer worker in her local charity shop. She,and her knit and natter group, have raised thousands for the British Legion in aid of injured military veterans. She also supports a centre for homeless people, and people with alcohol and drug problems. Both husband and wife regularly donate food to that centre and also to Bleakholt animal sanctuary, like lots of others do,thankfully! Her hobbies,as well as poetry, include, camping, portrait painting (with the exclusion of her potato headed husband!) motorcycling, hill walking, line dancing, coach touring and visiting various spiritual churches. Her gorgeous husband aka Mr misery guts is an ex-decorator retired early due to an overload of home and family diy duties as well as being the family mechanic and runs the family bank from his increasingly dwindling nest egg. His interests are, motorcycling, fell running, shotokan karate, and hiding from the family when they come knocking unexpectedly.Again another accomplished poet like his wife, and both have been on WOL since 2007 and absolutely love it! (courtesy of Julian,Greg and their brilliant team!) We thank you for reading and give ALL on WOL our best regards and thanks for ALL the wonderful poetry! Patricia and Stef Wilde.x

Thank you for your comments on my nameless poem. I'm sorry if it caused you distress. No its not autobiographical but I spent twenty years working in mental health, specialising in "dual diagnosis". I spent a great deal of time with addicts. I had few successes and more than a few loses. But I had my brush.

Stories to tell. Early 1980

Cathy was my friend.
I was twenty.
Cathy was twenty three.
she worked
at British Home Stores.
On the counter
where lipstick
and smells jostled.
Colours for the nose.
Candy for the eye.

She was pretty.
Very pretty.

We’d meet in
The pub.
“The Cheese”.
We’d drink.
We’d get stoned.
And go and
have sex.
We didn’t
make love.

And she’d inject
her heroin.
Which was
unusual then.
One night
I said…
“Let me try that”.
She said…
And with a kiss.
“You don’t want this
you don’t want
what it means”.
She had white eyes
And her needles
Were clean.

I liked drugs.
And heroin
I’d never tested.
And that…
I was Interested.
But she said no.
So we just fucked.
A bit.
Then I went away
for six months.
And when…
I came back
Cathy had left
For Aberdeen.
With some guy
who worked
on the rigs.

So I never saw
The woman who…
Saved my life.
Who knew?
So it wasn’t
until years later
that I thought

And the magic
of peoples lives.
I like to listen.
As everyone has
Stories to tell.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the very kind words. I'd say the current political population require muzzles, never mind hats - dangerous clowns, the lot of them!

Thanks P. & S for comments on Park Bench. I might be able to view your Hamelin Man tonight. Watch this space. I watched the Louis Theroux doc. about alcoholism and it influenced me greatly , thus the poem.

Hi guys, thanks for the explanation on my profile, made me chuckle, these computer keys can be tricky things, can't they? Glad to see that Patricia lets you think you're the master of the house, Stef, ha ha.

Hi, you lovely friends, thanks for the welcome back on my profile.
Actually, I wanted to welcome you back too, because when I had a quiet peek on this site a couple of months ago your profile had disappeared. I was quite sad. So it's good we are all back together! :-) xx
