Ode to Shakespeare Woulds’t thou had written half of all thine reams, Thy words would p’raps not burden every shelf. Thou might not be as held in such esteem, Though lives would lack thine literary wealth. We might not go “unto the breach, dear friends”, Nor would these “woods lack worlds of company”. Robin will maybe not “restore amends”, Unwritten works shall not “give life to thee.” The Scottish Play might never’ve cursed our stage, King Hamlet wouldn’t “threaten and command.” The chance to find more depth in every page, To rouse each man; fall victim to its charm. How drab a life without this man might look. So, here’s thy charge, make time and read his books.
