Biography

Biography: Born and bred in Melbourne, Australia, I came to writing and poetry late, after careers and ambitions in mathematics, martial arts and music. I have had poetry and fiction published in journals and anthologies around Australia and also in Britain, Canada, the USA, and Germany. I am the current editor of Divan (www.bhtafe.edu.au/divan), Australia’s first all-Australian online poetry journal, and in 2005 I won the Melbourne Poets Union International Poetry Competition. I teach in a writing course at Box Hill Institute, Victoria, have recently completed a PhD in Creative Writing, and am working on my second collection of poetry. Readings in Ireland: The White House Poets, Limerick, 10 October 2007. North Beach Poetry Nights, Galway, 11 October 2007. For more details see the Gig Guide.

Petrie Dish Because your thoughts, language or genes Are flawed in the sight of a convenient god We have the technology to purify you. The crude way: a blow to the head, your body Still twitching tossed in a cauldron, righteous Manoeuvres of the scalpel, lungs gulping blood, The bubbling meltdown to fats and proteins For recycling. The stench is always resolute. The refined way: while you sleep, a swarm Of micro-machines to follow your breath, Unravel the DNA recipe of cell and sense, Collect the sludge for later re-education In a test tube. Always a minimum of fuss. Watch how you respond to this, The walls listening to your dreams, The imprint on your pillow fading.
