Biography

I began writing poetry in 2010 when by chanceI attended a workshop run by the fantastic local performance poet Joe Hakim. I can honestly say that it has changed my life In 2013 I performed my one woman show 'A Woman with a View' at The Edinburgh Fringe to coincide with my first book with the same title. I very recently published my 2nd book 'Add Verse To Therapy' This book is mainly verse but also contains some prose. It's about human dilemmas. Love, loss, death, drugs, work, trauma etc. It's heart breaking and it's fun and takes the odd sideways swipe at human behaviour. I perform at open mics and festivals and where ever else I'm asked. I came 2nd in the National Poetry Slam with my poem The Office Bitch. I also perform with 2 other local poets. We're all published and known collectively as The Argy Bargy Poets.

Samples

The Elderly Couple The elderly couple hand in hand Tap their feet to the beat of the band She looks across… a sideways glance He understands… she wants to dance They move to the beat of the band He’s looking good in his crisp new shirt She leans in closer…whispers… flirts In response he strokes her hair… Wonders about her underwear? They have no need for words They share a smile, a gentle touch Occasionally their lips may brush An eyebrow raised, she knows the signs He’s wondering if she feels inclined? She indicates – no need to rush It’s 4 o’clock in the afternoon And the tea dance will be ending soon He holds her close For the final waltz Of their second honeymoon Arm in arm they head for the station Giggling with anticipation On arrival home They unplug the phone To aid their concentration Hungrily the pair embrace Kick back furniture to gain some place And…rehearse the steps they learned today Practising the art of the swing and sway They move with style and grace Sipping cocoa they reminisce Wondering how it’s come to this? The elderly couple side by side Sex replaced by the Polly Glide And the obligatory good night kiss
