Information

ArtfulScribe aims to find, develop and promote new and emerging poets and audiences by hosting creative poetry workshops, poetry events, and open mics that inspire, educate and entertain. Covering traditional poetry, performance poetry and avant garde poetics, we are committed to empowering self-expression in the community by developing skills and confidence, raising the profile of poetry in Southampton, Hampshire, and surrounding counties.

What we do

Archimedes Screw Project Tapping into the vast reservoir of South Coast creativity, Archimedes Screw is a project devised to pump poetry up from grassroots production to professional performance. Offering a series of 12 creative workshops to stimulate the depths of the imagination and pour poetry from pens, participants will be encouraged to experiment with both form and content through guided workshop activities, collaborative work and exercises that invigorate creative thinking. Supporting both page and performance poetry, Archimedes Screw will also provide a bi-monthly showcase event where poets can perform their work to an appreciative audience, raising public profiles and performance experience. Featuring 10 open mic slots, two extended local poet sets, and a national/international headline act, this event offers career progression for poets courtesy of an audience participatory voting system: an open mic poet will be selected by peer review to perform a future extended local poet set and one local poet will be given a fantastic opportunity to feature as a paid performer at Apples and Snakes '451' poetry night at Southampton's Nuffield Theatre.

All poems are copyright of the originating author. Permission must be obtained before using or performing others' poems.
