Open mic nights

Hi I'd like to get an open mic night organised maybe at a pub , I know it's a silly question but do you have to have a mic , it's just that I don't have a mic or any knowledge about setting one up

Hi Katie,

simple answer: no, you don't need a mic. ?

longer answer: you don't need a mic as long as the room is quiet and the acoustics are good. I've been to plenty of nights which don't use or need a mic, and I've also been to others which *have* a mic but where the sound quality which comes out of the speakers isn't of the best. So there's no need to invest in a mic (obviously, if the night takes off and you're packing them in, that may need to change! ?)

What's important in a night is how it's run. If there's any other poetry nights near you, check them out. What do they do? What works? What doesn't? What would you like to change? Or build on? etc etc etc

Good luck with it!

Hi Katie, we have been running an open mic night with guest poets for many years and we are always happy to chat with people about the ins and outs of it.
You dont say where you are, but if you are in the North you may like to visit us in Sowerby Bridge, (just down from Halifax, on the York- Leeds- Manchester line, and also the line south from Preston.)
Alternatively I am happy to chat by email. You can get my email from my profile.
