middleton August 2009

Last night at the middleton open mic, there was an electric atmosphere with many poets in need of cold showers. There was many a saucy poem as well as romance and love. Many poets had been inspired by Gemma O'Neils up and coming wedding. Although some chose to give dark predictions of married life. Gus Jonsson was one such poet with his dark poem on marriage and in the second half he made all us women cringe with his poem titled "Body Clock". Simon Ellis was randy with his poem " Lets make love" as was Paul Blackburn with his attempt to suduce Miss O'Neil with his own " Lets make love". Julia Mclay told of candy knickers in "Blackpool" and Allan Gray after killing off the very loved Gordon Zola read a rib tickling " An Ageing Rock Legend". Jefferama read " When I'm Down" but came back with " Junk, Junk, Junk". Both Val Cook and Lynda Morgan read beautiful poems. Val Cooks " Mothers love " was a heart renching poem and Lynda Morgan read a greatly recieved " Chinease Necklase". Sarah Crowler read a twisted "Maternal Instint" and Dermot Glennon read a sustina to fruit followed by " In Darkness" Seamus Kelly wanted " the last word" with the women in his life and Jenny Goulding was " Pushing the bounderies" with her artical. The p[oets new to poetry impressed us, Brian Wood read " I just want a job" and Geoff was "The Penitrator" Geoff also accompied Andy on the key board for Andys poem "A git of a poet". Gemma O'Neil read for the last time in her maiden name, She dedicated a poem to her husband to be Chris. I read "Together" about a man and his dog and their last journey. There was a great atmospere and a spark in the air but I dont know if it was all the randy male poets...

I'm definately in agreement with Katie about all the cold showers that were needed last night- phew!

We had 21 poets and audience members last night including Geoff and Brian Wood's first times which were both greatly recieved.

Feedback recieved on the night was:

Good points: (you saucy lot) Gemma's dress, Gemma's hat, all of it, just great, good night, good group and friendly atmosphere, funny as usual, poems and poets.

Areas for improvement: Less clothing, crotches on knickers, bugger cakes, can't think of anything, none, table setting maybe, tables feel too formal, layout too restricted, seating arrangement.

...and the great seating debate rages on.....
