Middleton 24th May

Review written by Katie, just typed up by me:

Seamus Kelly read his Dad poem and told of the Never Ending Journey after his sucessful run for charity. He raised £300 for Guide Dogs, so well done Seamus.
Hillary Murray made a stand for Carol Ann Duffy while Paul Broadhurst did a very effective counter poem against her. He also read a poem based on drug addiction and the disregard of others' opinions.
Jeffarama made us think with his hard-hitting poem on gambling and Lynda Morgan tantelised us with New Flesh and made our hearts melt with Dance Swans about the many women transformed through their life's experiences.
Allan McKane read of the 'Name Game' and how where we are from makes us who we are, or does it? He also examined bagpipes while working on his exit strategy.
Gordon Zola made us hungry with his punny food poem and made us laugh with his stumbling recitation of 'Political Correctness'.
Rod Whitworth read a short and sweet 'Penguin' poem and the powerful 'Lets Go Children Of The Homeland' which addressed a very hard-hitting issue.
Gemma O'Neill read a poem very close to my heart 'You Are Wallpaper (From Laura Ashley)' which she dedicated to me and is about us wanting to be like our friends. Then she read 'The Lovliest Open Mic In The West' which echoed events which may or may not have happened at Middleton's last open mic.
I read 'Someone Near' and 'Gemma's Poem' which was dedicated to a true friend. And I finished with a poem based on insomnia, 'Awake'.
Paul Blackburn read Peter Crompton's 'White Goods' and Julian Jordan kind of remembered an old one of his.

We were a small but brilliant group last night, with 15 attending and the best ever raffle odds with 3 bottles of wine!

As Seamus, (the maths genius of the group), might say it was a night and a half and a half!

Positive feedback recieved was: relaxed and comfortable evening, happy evening, enjoyable night, fun poetry, cakes, good fun, the lovely bits, everything, bit of lovely banter, very supportive, friendly atmosphere.

Areas for improvement: take down baby boy's christening decorations, (they won't be there next time promise!)
