Down at the Howcroft

Poets roasting by the open fire
Much talent to hear and see

There was a huge array of talent there for all to enjoy snd we were treated to melodic songs.

I don't feel that the atmosphere really buzzed..

For myself my second poem my Lancashires Olympic Bid poem was not up to my usual standards. It could due with a rethink to be honest.Sorry

cheers

Yes Phil, we did roast by the open fire, Abi sang us a sweet lullaby and Sandra read us her inspired deep and dark poems. No wonder we didn`t Buzz . But we did have a good turn out, even though many of our regular talented poets had flown over to Bordeaux to share and support performance poetry there. We enjoyed many differing styles of poems, that entertain, inform and amuse, another successful night at the Howcroft.
Thanks again to all who contributed to out first Raffle. We are hoping to raise enough money to improve the interactive facilities on this website.

Hi Val

Yes the fire was energy sapping. I enjoyed the variety of poetry styles and derived aspects from their work that could improve my own.

One valuable lesson I have learnt for myself is that it doesn't always do a performer justice to rush a piece or work through.
I was disappointed in my last piece

Howcroft Inn,as always was a den of variety and richness.

I must congratulate Alan too, on his Comparing skills. The evening ran well under his expert guidance.
But sadly we did miss out,on hearing more of Gorden Zola`s unique poetry and style.
Phil you did good.

Yes Pete, it seems ages since I last saw you perform. Hope the trains are back on track for the next session at the Howcroft.

Phil

don't worry about rushing your poem
you will improve every time, and maybe even feel you are going backwards sometimes, just continue.

I mess up all the time, what I have found is best not to drink more than a pint or 2. Recently i have been very naughty and spoiled a few shows because I was a drunken idiot. I'm working on it.

Hope to see you in Wigan
Val why don't you come along to Wigan sometime would be good to see you there

It was the first time I'd been to a WoL event at the Howcroft. A few familiar faces and a nice relaxed (although stiflingly, thanks to the fire) atmosphere.

Some interesting works read and there appeared an enlightening theme of war at one point, which I enjoyed.

I gave the option, later of a choice of a perverted poem, a nostalgic one or one that got me in trouble with the wife. The perverted one won the vote and I'd like to apologise to those who might have thought it a little too graphic, and thank you all for listening.

I'll definately be back next month, thoroughly enjoyed the night.

Howcroft, last Sunday (18th Nov.) was one of the best nights ever, and I only got to hear the second half.
We've come a long way. The regular success of newcomers is heartening, and maintains, some times rise well above, the standards set by Dave, Julian, Paul and all the Old Sweet Greeners.

The gig night announces the "Formby Poets in Fresh Fields", presented by me and Don,(music and poetry) same night as Wigan I'm sorry to say, but the date was fixed before.

Again, to all Howcroft Write Out Louders.
Well Done.
Bill Brierley.
