The Fence
My enemy lives over there:
In the house across the road.
Not long ago, I knew him well;
But no longer. Sad, really.
He and his son helped me lift
That big oak dining table
On to our garden terrace.
What a job! And what a night
We had, of fun and frolics.
Now times, like looks, have hardened,
And yet, once, we were firm friends.
Then they came and built that fence.
