The church has always been a place of poetry. For centuries the rhythms of George Herbert and the King James Bible have cascaded down the aisles, making a link between everyday speech and the divine.

But what happens when three young poets make Dorchester Abbey the location for their own lyrical interventions?

Excessive Sensibility - alluding to one of Oxfordshire's most celebrated rural myths - is a chance to experience the words of MacGillivray, Ben Parker and Tom Slingsby, as they transform ritual space with new triangulations of the mythical, spiritual and the vernacular.

MACGILLIVRAY is a performance artist, songwriter and poet who was awarded her Doctorate in Fine Art in 2012. She has performed alongside writers such as Alan Moore, Don Paterson, B. Catling and Iain Sinclair. She will be giving a special sneak preview of The Last Wolf of Scotland, her debut full collection forthcoming from Pighog Press in October 2013.

BEN PARKER is originally from Worcester and now lives and works in Oxford. An alumnus of the Creative Writing MA at the UEA, his poetry has appeared in a number of magazines, including The White Review, Under the Radar, Fuselit and nthposition. He was shortlisted for the inaugural Melita Hume prize and he published his debut pamphlet The Escape Artists with Tall Lighthouse in 2012.

TOM SLINGSBY works as a poetry editor with Pighog Press and as a writer on art at the Meller Merceux Gallery. He was awarded his Doctorate in English Literature in 2010. Last year he published Hallucinated Horse, a sampler of contemporary poetry by young Latin Americans, translated from the Spanish by him and Nicole C. Delgado. Slingsby will read from that collection, and from his own writings.
