Open Mic Event

Contact: martin@cannonpoets.org.uk

Cannon Poets meet, usually on the first Sunday of each month [except August]. Our Sunday afternoon’s activities generally go like this:

2.00 pm: We meet and the afternoon programme is introduced with a brief summary of current activities.

2.15 pm: We split into small groups. These sessions are led by an experienced poet and start with a brief read-round of published poems brought by members. We then go on to the main activity of the afternoon when each member has the opportunity to read poems that he/she is working on. Other group members discuss and comment. If you wish to ‘plunge in’ on your first visit you will be welcome. If possible, please bring 5 copies of your poem. You may be surprised at how supportive and helpful these sessions can be. Sometimes we have special events or workshops instead of small groups.

4.00 pm: Tea or Coffee break.

4.30 pm: ‘Ten Minute Slot’: One member who has previously volunteered gives a presentation, usually of their own poems.

Finally we have a read-round [one each] of our own poems, without comment.

Occasionally we have guest poets running workshops on aspects of poetry instead of the usual format.

Please visit our website to check on dates of meetings. www.cannonpoets.org.uk
