A night of screenings and readings, including the premiere of Graham Lester George's The Postman, the first showing in Nottingham of an extract from Michael Eaton's The Masks of Mer, film-poems from Maria Taylor, and Wayne Burrows' 'Disturbances'.

Tickets are £4/£3 (NWS members and concessions) on the door, or book via 0115 959 7947 or admin@nottinghamwritersstudio.co.uk.

Here's the full programme:

On Screen...

- Premiere of Graham Lester George's silent short The Postman, in the spirit of silent classics like The Plank and Home of Your Own.
- The first showing in Nottingham from Michael Eaton's The Masks of Mer, taking us back to the dawn of film, with ethnographic cinematographs from the Torres Strait in 1898.
- The Cutting Room Slot: a thought-provoking film by Sally O'Reilly, On Why So Many Films End on the Beach, takes a refreshing view of the overlooked and the unexpected.
- Donkey, a short film by three-time novelist Nicola Valentine, directed by Deborah Haywood.

...and on Stage

- Wayne Burrows' 'Disturbances', a bit like playing a record backwards, discovers what's hidden at the end of the reel.
- Richard Goodson's long poem '1969', with Gary Keane supplying the voice of Neil Armstrong.
- Mulletproof Poet, meanwhile, goes east with Yuri Gargarin, and explores facial disfigurement and the screen in 'Not All Monsters Come in Kits'.
- Maria Taylor delivers three film-poems, 'A History of Screaming', 'The Ghoul', and 'The Carnival of Souls'.
- Alison Moore brings us a memory of cinema as place in an extract from her forthcoming novel, The Lighthouse (Salt).

Brought to you by Nottingham Writers' Studio in association with Staple magazine and The Cutting Room.
