Pigbaby, the 2011 Brighton Poetry Festival, reaches its climax with an evening of readings from some of the most influential figures in contemporary British poetry.

Proceedings begin with Mimi Khalvati, the Iranian-born English poet who has published six volumes of "exquisitely nuanced" poetry including The Meanest Flower (2007), a Financial Times Book of the Year which was shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize. Khalvati will be launching her new collection from Carcanet, Child: New and Selected Poems 1991-2011, a autobiographically sequenced volume featuring quintessential 'meditations on light, love and art'.

We continue with readings from Peter and Anne Sansom, two prolific and seminal poets who founded The Poetry Business. Peter’s career spans 1994's classic Writing Poems through to last year’s Selected Poems ‭(‬2010‭), while Anne ‬has published six collections from Painting from Memory ‭(‬as Anne Dancy,‭ ‬1989‭) ‬to In Praise of Men and Other People ‭(‬2003‭)‬. The Poetry Business‭ has published many of the UK‭’‬s most important poets and Peter and Anne will be sharing their insights in a question and answer session as part of their presence this evening.

Also published by The Poetry Business is Catherine Smith, who will bring this magical event to a close. Author of The Butcher’s Hands (2003) and Lip (2007), Smith was named in 2004 by The Guardian as one of the nation’s most important emerging poets.
