Kay Ryan was born in 1945. United States Poet Laureate from 2008-10, she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 2011. Although her first collection was published in 1983 - a further five collections have followed - her work went widely unrecognised until she won the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize in 2004 and subsequently received many awards and much acclaim.
