A hypnotic evening of eerie African tales, myths and legends told in traditional styles and textured with rich haunting music.

Hosted by our new Associate Artist Inua Ellams and featuring celebrated storytellers Jan Blake, Tupp and Alex Oma-Puis of Iroko Theatre.

Jan Blake has an international reputation for dynamic, witty and exciting storytelling and has been described as a ‘storytelling tour de force’. Jan is currently one of the world’s leading female storytellers specialising in stories from Africa and the Caribbean. She began her storytelling career with Common Lore Storytellers & Musicians, and has since gone on to appear at all the major storytelling festivals in Europe and beyond, running workshops, teaching and performing across the world.

Tuup is a well known storyteller, musician, and poet. He is also the vocal-lyricist and percussionist for the band Transglobal Underground.

Alex Oma-Puis has been working in the theatre for many years as a director, actor, writer and storyteller. In 1996 Alex founded the award-winning IROKO Theatre Company.

Afreak! also features Jojo Yeats, a world renowned Kora Player from Ghana. Jojo has played with Trevor Whats, Keith Waithe, & Nelly Furtado to name but a few!
