POETRY ON THE SPOT
Poetry on the Spot is a 'first' for Write Angle. We saw them perform at their own open mic in Bournemouth, and knew our audience would love them!
They take poetry from the garret room, to present in its raw form. The poems are written from prompts revealed on stage and ready to perform in 15 minutes.
Bob Hill and Paul Canon Harris are the 'hilariously clever' culprits. They're given prompts, which can come from unusual words to World-wide newspaper headlines, and within a short time, they write something which they then perform -- and while one is furiously writing away, the other keeps the audience amused with his own poetry!
Paul has authored several collections as well as non-fiction prose. His background includes former Anglican priest and Police officer. He now runs the 'Lines and Squares poetry show' at numerous events including the 'New Forest Folk Festival'. He's one of the 'Yellow Bus' Poets whose poetry can be seen on various routes around Bournemouth and Poole. He recorded two CD collections, and performs spoken word material - poetry and 'Thought for the Day' on national BBC Radio2 and regional radio. His one-man show 'People Watching People-Watching' premiered at ManxLitFest and features many of his works, with photos by Grant David Reads.
Bob is a poet, music journalist, educator, and author of two collections, with poems in magazines and anthologies. He runs 'RedSugarBlack' Creative Content and Events and is originator and co-host of 'Poetry on the Spot'. He also DJs a weekly Jazz radio show called 'Illicit Grooves' and has poems on the buses. He's promoter and compere of 'Beatnik Boulevard' and creative director behind 'The Mighty Pen writing workshops'. He's performed at the Edinburgh Fringe, the Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival, Wimborne Literary Festival, The Tolpuddle Festival, The Ejector Seat Festival, Purbeck Folk Festival and The Winchester Poetry Festival Fringe among others, and has led groups in schools, retirement homes, businesses, museums, art galleries, libraries, a haunted house, Neolithic Henge monument and in a 1940s Airstream trailer.
And of course, we'll also have our popular Open Mic for you all to bring your own poetry and musical instruments and join in the fun! Please encourage your poetical and musical friends to come along and share their talents and skills! We love when people come to sit and enjoy, but we're putting a 'special call-out' to poets and musicians' to come along as well. There's nothing quite like getting up there and feeling the thrill of participating in the fun of performing! And we promise you, it's not as scary as it may seem!
There'll be a raffle for two free meals at 'Nagshead' in Chichester, with its superb selection of food and friendly service!
Don't forget! Mark it in your diaries now! We look forward to seeing you on 18th April atTownhouse Pub/Bistro, Petersfield, starting 7.15 for 7.30pm, entry £6.
