GREG HARPER – 'SIMPLY PRESENTED SINGER/SONGWRITER..DEEPLY FELT'!
Greg Harper, Petersfield Write Angle's Guest Performer, Singer/Songwriter, was born in Shoreham-by-sea, Sussex, and still lives in the county. The quality and rich tones of his voice will leave you caught up in his music, even when you leave at the end of the evening!
Greg writes with great passion and an earthy honesty, about our history, aspirations, loves and lives. He combines evocative melodies with genuinely thought-provoking lyrics and has made it to finalist in the UK Songwriting Competition.
His songs, including 'All Gone', have been used by the Woodland Trust, to promote many diverse issues such as drawing attention to the loss of ancient woodland. In his song, 'Roadpeace', used by the campaign group, 'Roadpeace', he brings awareness to the injustice of the legal system, while dealing with the issues surrounding road death, in the story of 'Mary Lou'.
Many of his songs draw on stories of historical truth. 'Capel-le-Ferne', described by many as 'Sheer poetry", reminds us of the sacrifices made by 'The Few' in the Battle of Britain during the summer of 1940. It was written from the perspective of a veteran attending a memorial event at Capel-le-Ferne, on the cliffs near Folkstone, Kent, in 2010. 'November Sky' recalls the tragedy of the Coventry blitz from November of that same year.
Apart from the environment and his war songs, Greg also writes songs that cover carefree childhood days, adulthood, and dealing with the feelings surrounding love.
He's performed in the US and Ireland as well as all around the UK, in many diverse venues, including radio, folk festivals, folk clubs, pubs, parliament (yes, Parliament!), theatres, farms, music and poetry events, castles, churches, chapels, village halls and country barns. He involves his audience and you'll find yourself humming along as he sings.
