Write Out Loud Woking on Zoom has been renamed … Write Out Loud Northumberland on Zoom. The reason? Organiser Greg Freeman has now been living up north for two years, and he feels it’s time to recognise this fact. This does not mean that regular supporters of Write Out Loud Woking on Zoom are no longer welcome to join in. Quite the reverse! Your support is as invaluable as ever. But Greg is hoping that more poets from the north-east and beyond – as they have done in the past – will find their way here, too, in the future. We are delighted to welcome Barbara Hickson as our guest poet at Write Out Loud Northumberland on Zoom in December! Barbara’s second poetry pamphlet, Only The Shining Hours, was published by Maytree Press earlier this year. Her poems have appeared in anthologies and journals including Poetry Salzburg Review, London Grip, Channel, Echtrai and Finished Creatures amongst many others. They have also won prizes in major competitions.
In 2019 she had 12 poems published in a shared collection with Bev Morris and Gabriel Griffin entitled Rugged Rocks, Running Rascals – poems for complicated times, published by DragonSpawn Press. Her own debut pamphlet A Kind of Silence was published by Maytree Press in 2021, and her second pamphlet, Only the Shining Hours, was published in March this year. Barbara lives in Lancaster with her husband and is a keen fell walker, organic gardener and nature conservation volunteer.
