Art has the power to inspire and incite change in society and culture. Join us for an evening of poetry and music with four special acts whose art celebrates this power.

Featuring performances from Bailey Kursar, Berne, Liba Ravindran and Sadatu Futa, each artist will perform work that inspires conversation and discussion about current issues, and how art can be a vital way of inciting change in society.

About the performers:

Bailey Kursar

In her 20s, Bailey Kursar wrote the songs she thought would get her signed. Now in her 30s, unapologetically older and wiser, she writes from anger, sadness, fear and hope. The results are her personal and political protest songs. Her tongue-in-cheek observations, personal storytelling and bluesy, jazzy vocals will plant themselves in your brain. Imagine the wit of Bo Burnham combined with the soulfulness of Tracy Chapman.

Berne

Ethereal Earth-pop duo Berne poetically use music to talk about issues they care deeply about: the climate emergency and social justice, while instilling hope for the future.

Berne's activism doesn't just stop at music. That's why they created a low impact, eco-friendly website. To raise further awareness, they built an interactive music map that highlights environmental initiatives around the world.

Supported by the likes of BBC Introducing, EARMILK, Headliner Magazine, and Sound City, Berne continue in their mission to inspire and urge people to bring about change in the world, to highlight that we are in charge of the future and that together we can make a real difference.

Liba Ravindran

Liba Ravindran is a poet from Sri Lankan Tamil heritage, born in Norway and presently living in Southgate, North London. He has been writing for nine years with a breadth of material spanning poetry, essays, short stories and a play. Liba has been using his poetry for grassroots change as a community activist and involved in the local poetry/spoken word scene in London through readings at various venues. He has been recognised for his work through winning competitions, being published in anthologies and being a booked performer. The content is ironically quixotic and surreally perceptive in its philosophical themes covering dreams, love, reality and nature.

Sadatu Futa

Sadatu is a writer and photographer. In April, she was an Artist in Residence exploring Equity with Shutterstock and Pocc, her selected poem “Our Verse” explored the ordinary possibilities for freedom, creativity and joy within our grasp. She has written articles for Fringe of Colour Films, Gal-dem, and Black Ballad.
