This new workshop series offers a space for poets of all levels to connect, surprise themselves with new writing and share their work in a supportive environment.

We will explore a different theme each week, taking inspiration from a variety of media including photography, painting, architecture, articles and, of course, poetry! By the end of each session, everyone should leave with a new poem to develop further. There will also be an opportunity to share, perform and discuss our work over refreshments after the workshop.

Monday 9 January – Poetry and Inspiration

“There is no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope.” – Mark Twain

In this introductory session, we will explore ways to find – and, more importantly, to fabricate inspiration – kick-starting a new poem full of different techniques. We will discuss contemporary examples and employ tools such as ekphrasis, dialogue, surrealism, references to popular culture and cut/ pasting to invigorate our writing.
