Join Maytree as we host the on-line launch of Pauline Rowe's wonderful new collection, The Weight of Snow.
Joining Pauline on the night will be acclaimed poet and academic, Colin Bancroft who will be reading from his debut Maytree collection, Impermanence and Liverpool based poet, Elspeth McLean.

Pauline Rowe’s fourth pamphlet The Ghost Hospital, published by Maytree Press, was shortlisted in the 2020 Saboteur Awards. Her full collection Waiting for the Brown Trout God was published by Headland Publications in 2009. Her collaborative exhibition Sleeping in the Middle – with photographer AJ Wilkinson – was shown at Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool in May 2018. The Allotments – a collaborative exhibition with photographic artist Dave Lockwood and artist, the late Arthur Lockwood – was shown as part of the LOOK Biennial at the Victoria Gallery & Museum, Liverpool in 2019. She founded and ran the Liverpool based charity North End Writers (2006 –2020). She has a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Liverpool and extensive experience of working in health and community settings.

The Weight of Snow is another moving and poignant collection. Described as a family story of bereavement, the book focuses on the accidental death of a child and the reverberations of loss over generations and how grief becomes emotional inheritance and impacts upon formation and love.

Colin Bancroft hails from Manchester where he attended Manchester Metropolitan University, completing a BA in English and MA in Creative Writing at the Manchester Writing School. He is currently living in the North Pennines studying for a PhD on the Ecopoetics of Robert Frost. He is published widely both in print and online and was the winner of the 2016 Poets and Players Prize.

Impermanence is an incredible debut from someone described as one of the hardest working people in the poetry business. Featuring the award winning poem, Tethered as selected by Jackie Kay. Featuring cover art by Kevin Threlfall.

'Impermanence invites us to contemplate that feeling of the world shifting below our feet, the turbulence of ‘motion, emotion and state’, of transition and agony in relationships, buffeted in the winds of experience and changeable weather'
Jonathan Humble - Yorkshire Times

Elspeth McLean grew up in Scotland and now lives in Liverpool, where she teaches English to refugees and asylum seekers and is a member of Liverpool Women Writers. Her poems have appeared in a variety of magazines and anthologies. She has spent much of the last year slowly recovering from long Covid, and has found reading and writing poems very therapeutic.

Readings will begin at 7pm so please log on beforehand.
