An evening of poetry, read and performed by Norwich based Martin Figura and Helen Ivory. Martin Figura’s Doctor Zeeman’s Catastrophe Machine is an autobiographical spoken word show about love, loss and rolling with the punches, all aided by a mathematical catastrophe machine, which has played to enthusiastic audiences at major literary festivals in Britain and abroad and was shortlisted for Best Spoken Word Show in the Saboteur Awards 2018. His partner Helen Ivory’s fifth Bloodaxe Books collection, The Anatomical Venus was short-listed for the East Anglian Book Awards in 2019. It examines how women have been portrayed as ‘other’; as witches; as hysterics with wandering wombs and as beautiful corpses cast in wax, or on mortuary slabs. Its poems are often beautiful and intriguing but can also be shocking and bizarre. Look forward to an exciting, moving and entertaining evening. They guest performers will be supported by poems from the Poem and a Pint Committee and the inimitable M/Cing of Ross Baxter on his annual February visit from the wilds of Blawith.
