Please join us to celebrate the 250th issue of PN Review, with readings from contributors Parwana Fayyaz, Jane Yeh, John McAuliffe, Eric Langley, Stella Halkyard, Vona Groarke, Helen Tookey, and Jason Allen-Paisant.

The event is free to attend and all are welcome to join us. Refreshments and copies of the magazine will be available on the night.

About our readers:

Parwana Fayyaz was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, and is currently working towards a Ph.D. on the medieval Persian poet Jami at Trinity College, Cambridge. She is a poet, researcher, and photographer. In 2019 she received the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem for ‘Forty Names’, originally published in PN Review 241.

Jane Yeh was born in America and has lived in London since 2002. Her first collection of poems, Marabou (2005), was shortlisted for the Whitbread, Forward, and Aldeburgh poetry prizes. She was named a Next Generation poet by the Poetry Book Society for her second collection, The Ninjas (2012). Her latest collection, Discipline (2019), was a Poetry Book Society Spring Recommendation.

John McAuliffe grew up in County Kerry, Ireland. The Gallery Press has published his four collections, most recently The Way In (2015), which was joint winner of the Michael Hartnett Award. He is co-director of the University of Manchester’s Centre for New Writing and edits The Manchester Review. He also writes a regular poetry column in The Irish Times.

Eric Langley is a lecturer in Shakespeare at UCL. His book, Suicide and Narcissism in the Works of Shakespeare, was published by OUP, and his poetry collection, Raking Light , was published by Carcanet in 2017, when it was shortlisted for The Forward Prize for Best First Collection.

Stella Halkyard studied English at the University of Newcastle, History of Art at the University of Manchester, and Archive Studies at the University of Liverpool. Between 1991-2018 she worked as the Modern Literary Archivist at the John Rylands Library, The University of Manchester. She has contributed regularly to PN Review for the last fourteen years.

Vona Groarke was born and raised in Ireland. She publishes in the United States with Wake Forest University Press and in Ireland with The Gallery Press. Her most recent collection, Double Negative, was published in 2019. She has been an editor of Poetry Ireland Review and teaches poetry at the University of Manchester.

Helen Tookey is based in Liverpool, where she teaches creative writing at Liverpool John Moores University. Her debut collection Missel-Child (Carcanet, 2014) was shortlisted for the Seamus Heaney first collection prize, and her second, City of Departures (Carcanet, 2019), was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Collection. She has contributed to PN Review for seventeen years, and in the past held an editorial position for the magazine.

Jason Allen-Paisant is a Jamaican writer who lives in Leeds. A lecturer in the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies at the University of Leeds, he teaches and does research around cultural memory in the African diaspora. Jason is also a 2015 Callaloo Creative Writing Fellow. His poetry has appeared in sx salon, The Cossack Review, POUI, and Callaloo.
