Acclaimed Scottish writer Kevin P Gilday is coming to Blackpool for an intimate night of poetry.

Fresh from a successful Edinburgh Fringe sting with his Suffering From Scottishness show, the award-winning spoken-word artist will deliver a selection of his best work.

Gilday has published four books of poetry, with his latest - Sad Songs for White Boys - released by Speculative Books in July.

Kevin will be performing a set based on his new book, which brings together 10 years of writing - an introduction to his work and a greatest hits set of his finest material.

Suffering From Scottishness was an immersive theatrical experience confronting the unique absurdity of Scottish identity, wryly dealing with notions of nationhood and patriotism.

These themes are particularly relevant to the entire United Kingdom as we near Brexit.

Gilday has performed all over the world including major festivals (BBC 6Music Festival, Glastonbury), Fringes (Edinburgh, Toronto, Vancouver) as well as large scale tours of the UK, Germany, Canada and the US. He has supported artists such as Akala, Saul Williams, Sage Francis, Alabaster DePlume and George the Poet.

The Glasgow-born artist is the curator and co-host of spoken word cabaret Sonnet Youth, a National Theatre of Scotland Breakthrough Writer and a BBC Writersroom Scottish Voice.

His debut album under the guise of Kevin P Gilday & The Glasgow Cross, Experience Essential, was released in 2018 on Iffy Folk Records (Glasgow) and Nymphs & Thugs Records (London).

His theatre work has been seen at Oran Mor, Tron Theatre, Assembly Roxy, Lemon Tree, Byre Theatre, Beacon Arts Centre, Village Pub Theatre, Eden Court, The Revue Stage (Vancouver) and Tarragon Theatre (Toronto). He has twice been shortlisted for the Scottish Short Play of the Year Award.

The show is being put on by Garry Cook's Enjoy the Show events company, which has lined up a series of performances this Autumn, including several shows taking place as part of Preston Arts Festival.
